KOTA KINABALU – A woman was fortunate to have cheated death after the four-wheel drive vehicle she was travelling in plunged into a deep ravine in the Tuaran district on Thursday (Oct 3).
The 22-year-old victim escaped serious injuries in the incident that occurred off Jalan Tamparuli-Ranau at about 2pm.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they were alerted to the incident at 2.09pm, adding a team of eight firemen was then deployed to the location.
He said the vehicle had veered off the road and fell 60m into the ravine.
“We had to use a rope to pull the victim to the road,” the spokesman said, in a statement.
A Health Ministry team present at the location had initially treated the woman before she was sent to the district hospital in an ambulance, he said.
The operation ended at 3.15pm, he added.
