Vietnam, India strengthen cooperation at UN

Indian Ambassador to the United Nations noted Vietnam's growing influence in multilateral forums, especially at the UN, and affirmed his commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening coordination between the two missions in New York.

NEW YORK – Ambassador Đặng Hoàng Giang, head of Việt Nam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN), on September 11 received Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, head of India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, right after he presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, marking the beginning of his tenure in New York.

Giang expressed his pleasure at meeting his Indian counterpart again, recalling the latter’s time as Indian Ambassador to Việt Nam in 2016-19.

He commended the recent positive development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Việt Nam and India, highlighted by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính’s state visit to India in early August 2024.

He emphasised the importance of further enhancing substantive and trustworthy cooperation at the UN, particularly on issues of mutual interest, contributing to seeking solutions to global challenges and protecting the interests and promoting the roles of developing countries.

For his part, Harish recalled his memories of the land and people of Việt Nam and praised the country’s significant achievements in socio-economic development and diplomacy.

He noted Việt Nam’s growing influence in multilateral forums, especially at the UN, and affirmed his commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening coordination between the two missions in New York.
