KUALA LUMPUR – Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he still respects his former boss Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin despite the two being on opposing political sides.
The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president posted a picture on social media showing his meeting with Muhyiddin about life after the elections.
“Despite being in different parties, my respect for TS Muhyiddin remains. We should always respect both our friends and rivals.
“Two hours chatting, catching up on life after elections. Muhyiddin is also one of my Muar constituents and he has contributed a lot,” the Muar MP said.
Syed Saddiq added that he was a firm advocate for bipartisanship, noting that politicians should focus on serving the interests of the people.
“Elections are now over, now it’s time to focus on serving and rebuilding Malaysia.
“For Malaysia to be a developed country, there must be courage to reach across political divides.
“We need a strong and stable government with an effective Opposition to turbocharge Malaysia forward,” he added.
Syed Saddiq had previously served as the Youth chief of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, which is currently led by Muhyiddin, before the former left the party after the infamous Sheraton Move in February 2020, leading to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Syed Saddiq then formed Muda in September 2020 and the party contested in the 15th General Election under the Pakatan banner against the Muhyiddin-led Perikatan Nasional coalition.
