VIENTIANE – The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has signed agreement with the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries on trade promotion between Laos and China.
The agreement was signed during a meeting in Vientiane on Tuesday to discuss the regulations around Lao and Chinese alcohol standards.
The event was organised by the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries, Laos’ Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Laos-China Cooperation Committee, and Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The agreement was signed by the Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Daovone Phachanthavong, and President of the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries, Mr Guo Xinguang.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Laos-China Cooperation Commission, Mr Xaysana Sitthiphone, said “This event is viewed as an opportunity for Chinese companies and whisky bottlers to introduce their products to Laos, as well as creating opportunities for links between Lao and Chinese business operators.”
The parties involved will partner in investment, processing and trade, and ensure common standards and regulations in relation to alcoholic beverages to ensure that product quality is uniform and maintained.
“I believe that by sharing lessons learnt, experience will enable us to understand the good and bad effects of alcohol, control undesirable practices, and improve aspects that benefit the general public,” Mr Xaysana said.
Mr Guo Xinguang said “To develop the industry and encourage alcohol producers in our two countries to ensure quality and international market growth in the context of global economic integration, cooperation in improving product quality and regulatory standards is vital and a constant trend in the development of the industry.”
“With China and Laos being friendly neighbours, we must increase cooperation in trade, cultural affairs, and other areas,” he added.
