HANOI – Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, together with his officials, on Sunday visited several meeting venues and issued instructions for the conduct of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings taking place in Vientiane this week.
The meetings will be held from October 8-11, drawing delegates from the 10 ASEAN member countries and the bloc’s partner nations.
The Prime Minister and his team visited Wattay International Airport, where they heard reports on various aspects of preparations for the arrival of delegates, such as decorations, ceremonies and certification rooms, according to the Paxason Daily newspaper.
The Prime Minister stressed that authorities should coordinate with each other to ensure that all preparations and supervision are meticulously planned and carried out so that everything runs smoothly and meetings proceed as intended.
The premier also toured the National Convention Centre where he suggested that officials in charge make sure that all their work is carried out to plan and in line with their assigned roles and responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the Vientiane Education and Sports Department has announced the closure of 498 schools in the city’s five central districts, from October 8-11 and certain roads have been closed to the public from October 5-13 to ensure smooth travel across central Vientiane for delegates.
