KATHMANDU – On the second day of Tihar, people across the country are honouring the bond between humans and dogs by treating their loyal companions to delicacies.

Nepal Police marked Kukur Tihar at the Central Police Dog Training School in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The function saw dogs adorned with tika and garlands receiving food and performing skills.

Security agencies in Nepal train dogs and use them in crime investigations. In addition to helping police and other law enforcement agencies in their jobs, police dogs are taught to search for narcotics, explosives, lost persons, and dead bodies. They are also trained to protect their handlers while searching for evidence from crime scenes.
