JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto and his entourage arrived on Wednesday morning at London Stansted Airport to meet with some of the United Kingdom’s leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III.

Just the day before, Indonesia’s new head of state had concluded his debut Group of Twenty (G20) appearance at the 2024 Rio de Janeiro summit in Brazil.

According to an official statement, the President’s UK stop was made on an invitation from the British king.

Prabowo received a red carpet welcome at the airport, where he was greeted by the king’s special representative, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex Charles Anderson and special envoy to the foreign secretary Adele Taylor, as well as several other diplomats.

The President is reportedly to attend the CEO Roundtables series in London, where top British and Indonesian business leaders are slated to discuss ways to strengthen strategic cooperation in key areas like technology and infrastructure.

Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya are accompanying Prabowo on the final leg of his five-country tour, which began on Nov. 8 with visits to China, the United States, Peru and then Brazil.

Earlier this week, the President said he was planning to extend his overseas tour to several Middle Eastern countries.

“We just have to see if the dates are suitable or not,” he said in a video message taken in Brazil and broadcast on Monday on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
