The alert comes after extreme rainfall last week that loosened soil in many areas, increasing the risk of landslides and flash floods, even with lighter rain.

KATHMANDU – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued a high alert as heavy rainfall is forecast to hit a few places in Bagmati and Koshi provinces starting Wednesday. According to the Department of Water and Meteorology, the downpour is expected to continue until Saturday.

The alert comes after extreme rainfall last week that loosened soil in many areas, increasing the risk of landslides and flash floods, even with lighter rain, NDRRMA said.

The authority has urged travellers to remain cautious, avoid landslide-prone areas, and seek safe locations during heavy downpours. Residents near rivers are advised to prepare for potential flash flooding.

Local disaster management committees and transport officials have been instructed to implement safety measures.

Last week’s heavy rain claimed 228 lives and left 158 others injured.
