Drone attack on railroad repair team in Myanmar’s Mon State

YANGON – In a shocking incident this morning, a team repairing the blown-up railroad on the Yangon-Mawlamyine line in Mon State fell victim to a drone attack.

According to reliable sources, the assailants used a drone to deliver a bomb, causing an explosion near the repair site in the Rubber Farm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

The railroad between Donwin and Theinseik stations on the Yangon-Mawlamyine railroad had been mined in Mon State on March 18.

In a separate incident, a cargo train carrying gravel was targeted with a mine in Thaton Township, Mon State. The train was en route from Paung Township to Bago Region when it was attacked between railway mile posts 123/1 and 122/23 on the Yangon-Mawlamyine line.

The detonation of the minesweeper caused the 14-coach cargo train, laden with paving stones, to derail. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the crew.

Authorities are promptly carrying out repairs to ensure the convenience of trains running between Yangon and Mawlamyine.

The railroad section between Mawlamyine and Kyaikhto townships along the Yangon-Mawlamyine line has witnessed frequent mine attacks.
