BEIJING – A watch fixer, who has been fixing watches and clocks for about 40 years in Southwest China’s Chongqing, embodies the China craftsmanship spirit.
Ye Fugui, 60, started to learn repairing clocks in 1983 when he was 20 years old. He went to Chongqing to make a living from Guang’an city, Sichuan province.
Apart from repairing clocks and watches, he also sold electric appliances and general merchandise, which helped him to form a good habit of being diligent in both thinking and practice and characters of being steadfast and unpretentious.
“I have repaired tens of thousands of watches including many famous brands from home and abroad,” Ye said.
With extensive experiences accumulated from decades of practice, Ye even successfully repaired a watch of a famous brand that was hard to repair.
Ye’s watch repairing booth is the most popular in the local area because the price is reasonable and his craftsmanship exquisite.
While “ding dong, ding dong”, a melodious bell, echoes in the booth, the 60-year-old Ye is still immersed in his repair world, with his head down, holding a dial in his left hand and a pair of polished tweezers in his right hand as he smoothly and carefully repairs “time”.
