BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The 45th ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) meeting and related meetings convened yesterday at The Empire Brunei in Jerudong.
Brunei Darussalam is hosting and chairing both the ACDM Meeting and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM), themed ‘Building a Resilient ASEAN through Inclusive and Sustainable Disaster Recovery.’
The ACDM meeting serves as a forum to exchange views on strategic and current issues while discussing progress and the status of various projects, programmes, and activities under the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Work Programme 2021-2025 (AWP 2021-2025).
Three working groups supervise and implement projects under the AWP 2021-2025: the ACDM Working Group on Prevention and Mitigation (ACDM WG P&M), the ACDM Working Group on Preparedness, Response and Recovery (ACDM WG PRR), and the ACDM Working Group on Global Leadership (ACDM WG GL).
The meeting also addressed the status and progress of projects, programmes, and activities in collaboration with ACDM dialogue partners such as Japan, China and South Korea.
The 45th ACDM Meeting coincided with several other meetings, including the 21st Governing Board of the AHA Centre (GB-AHA) meeting, the 6th ASEAN Disaster Resilience Platform (ADRP) Meeting, the 9th ACDM Plus Japan meeting, the 8th ACDM Plus China meeting, and the 7th ACDM Plus Republic of Korea meeting.
The meeting was attended by ASEAN delegates from National Disaster Management Organizations (NDMOs) of ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) and Timor-Leste as an observer, along with ACDM dialogue partners from China, Japan and South Korea. Following the 45th ACDM meeting, the 12th AMMDM will be held, chaired by Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
