BEIJING – As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, unique mooncakes in the style of ancient architecture have recently become a new favorite among tourists and residents in Taiyuan, Shanxi province.

The cultural and creative mooncakes cover many Taiyuan cultural landmarks, such as the Jinci Temple, the ancient county seat of Taiyuan, Mount Taishan, and the Twin Pagoda Temple.

“The booming cultural tourism in Shanxi, combined with the arrival of the Mid-Autumn Festival, has led to a sharp increase in orders,” said Li Lu, the manager of a mooncake shop. “We are working hard to keep up with the demand for mooncakes.”

They have also launched a series of mooncakes related to the popular game Black Myth: Wukong.

“To keep traditional food popular and fresh, continuous innovation is inevitable,” said Li. “The ancient architecture in Shanxi has become a hit due to the game. I am very happy and proud, and I hope to contribute to promoting our culture.”

In addition to the styles, Li has also developed a variety of fillings that are more suitable for young people, such as durian, chestnut and chocolate.
